Gartner: Software as a service market to grow 17.9 percent to $14.5 billion

According to the latest report by Gartner, North America is generating the most business, but sales are quickly rising in Western Europe and Asia-Pacfic

Global spending on SaaS (software as a service) will rise 17.9% this year to $14.5 billion dollars.

The SaaS market will remain strong through 2015, when spending on the software is expected to hit $22.1 billion, according to Gartner.

The spending rise is attributable to greater familiarity with how SaaS works, growth in related PaaS (platform as a service) offerings, and IT budgeting considerations, Gartner research director Sharon Mertz said in a statement. SaaS products are typically sold via subscription, allowing companies to avoid large up-front licensing fees and capital costs.

North America is the most mature and largest SaaS market, expected to generate $9.1 billion in revenue this year, compared to $7.8 billion last year.

Western Europe’s SaaS spending will generate more than $3.2 billion in 2012, up from $2.7 billion in 2011.

In the Asia-Pacific region, for which Gartner excludes Japan, SaaS revenue will jump from $730.9 million in 2011 to $934.1 million this year.

Japanese companies will spend $495.2 million on SaaS this year, compared to $427 million last year, Gartner said.

SaaS sales in Japan will be driven by CRM (customer relationship management) and collaboration software, “which already have actual demand,” Gartner said.

SaaS spending in Latin America this year will be $419.7 million, compared to $331.1 million in 2011, Brazilian and Mexican companies will account for the majority of sales, with CRM, procurement and ERP (enterprise resource planning) applications the most popular choices, Gartner said.

Meanwhile, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa remain “small and emerging markets overall” with “ongoing infrastructure challenges,” Gartner said.

Overall, the market growth predicted by Gartner is a welcoming boost to the industry and to those looking at software solutions for their organisation.

Spending on social applications to help sales, marketing and customer service is expected to surpass $1 billion worldwide this year.

According to Forbes, adoption rates have been highest among business-to-consumer (B2C) type organizations, business to business companies are now aggressively investing in social. By year-end 2013, B2B organizations using social CRM applications will represent 25 percent of all projects worldwide, which is an increase from fewer than 10 percent in 2011.

According to Adam Sarner (a research director at Gartner) “Social CRM applications are used by sales, marketing and customer service organizations to encourage the capture and sharing of data among users, ceding levels of decision control to a community. Users include customers, as well as sales, marketing and service organizations, to create brand awareness, gather information, build trust, evaluate decisions, sell and aid post purchase activities. Social CRM applications can have both internal and external company users, and they can be public or private, outsourced or hosted, and make connections to external communities.”

Towards the end of summer we changed our name from Oakley Integrated Business Solutions Ltd, to Oakley Global Business Solutions Ltd. Along with this we set up our four specialist centres of excellence in Oakley ERP, Oakley Accounting, Oakley Mobile and Oakley Software.

We attended some wonderful events such as Appsworld, Internet World and we also hosted a Sage Accpac ERP event in London. Throughout all of these we met lots of interesting people and are already looking forward to the events of 2012.
